Excellent Students of Economics Awarded for the Eighth Times

Four awarded students received the Penta Award for Excellent Study Results (the "Penta Award") yesterday, for the eighth time announced by the Penta Foundation in cooperation with the University of Economics in Bratislava. The Penta Award is intended for students of the last year of the University of Economics and its target is to motivate students to achieve excellent study results, remunerate their efforts and quality, and support their further professional growth. Each of the awarded students received financial remuneration of 70,000 SKK.

"The Penta Award has again fulfilled our expectations this year. We have met twelve excellent students not only achieving excellent study results but also continuously working on their professional growth, additionally educating themselves and seeking other opportunities to extent their knowledge" – said Katarína Stupková, professional growth, and added:

"We have also been pleased with the fact that all registered students have been obtaining theoretical knowledge and experience through placements and scholarship stays at universities abroad as well as the fact that all of them disposed of practical experience in public or private field."

In the eighth year of the Penta Award for Excellent Study Results, the following students were awarded 70,000 SKK:

Michal Marček, Faculty of Company Management of the University of Economics (UE)

Matej Šiškovič, faculty of national Economy of the UE

Ľuboš Trunkvalter, Faculty of Company Management of the UE

Matej Zita, Business Faculty of the UE

"This award is not only remuneration for our students but also honor to our University," said prof. Ing. Kajetana Hontyová, PhD., Vice-Chancellor of the University of Economics for Education.

Up to the present, 105 students registered in all years of the Penta Award. The Penta Foundation awarded 41 of them and distributed the total amount of almost 2.3 million SKK (2.250,000 SKK) among the students awarded.

Some awarded students are currently working with the private equity group Penta occupying significant positions.

"The Penta Award helped me to point out my abilities and ambitions. After graduating the school I got a chance from Penta to become a member of a project team. Thus I gained experience in the whole field of restructuring process and stabilizing companies, as well as valuable know-how, which a young man cannot commonly get so quickly," – said Jozef Janov, laureate of the sixth year of the Penta Award of 2002, current Investment Manager of Penta.

On the occasion of ceremonial awarding the Penta Award, the Penta Foundation gave a donation in the amount of 200,000 SKK to the University of Economics.

This year the Penta Foundation will also announce the fourth year of a similar competition in the Czech Republic under the name “Cena Penty za vynikajíci studijní výsledky” (the “Penta Academic Excellence Award”).

Summary of the eighth year of the Penta Award:

12 students from all faculties of the University of Economics in Bratislava registered.

The students had to meet demanding selective criteria that had been set to evaluate their excellent academic results achieved to date, responsible approach to their studies, and their desire for self-education and professional growth.

Laureates of the Penta Award were selected by a selection committee consisting of the top academic representatives of the University of Economics and top managers of the private equity group Penta.

The students had an opportunity to present their academic results, study activities, and professional plans for the future at a face-to-face meeting with committee members.

The following are binding terms and conditions for the students of the University of Economics in Bratislava applying for the “Penta Award for Excellent Study Results”

For the academic year of 2006/2007, the selection committee specified the following terms and conditions individual candidates for the “Penta Award for Excellent Study Results” have to comply with:

  • the student must be duly registered in the last year of a senior stage of a full-time study
  • the student must have completed all exams from the previous study
  • average results for the previous study must be 1.30 or better (a simple arithmetic average)
  • the student must be fluent in English and other world language
Preparation of an essay to the extent of 3 to 4 pages on one of the following topics is a part of obligatory conditions for granting the “Penta Award for Excellent Study Results”:
  1. Macro-Economic Contribution of Private Equity Companies
  2. Private Equity as a Part of an Institutional Investor’s Investment Portfólio
  3. Pros and Cons of IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards) in a Private Equity Company
  4. Sources of Competitive Advantage of Private Equity Companies in Global Competition
  5. Basic Principles and Tools of Marketing Communication of Private Equity Industry in Slovakia

Concurrently, the student has to comply with at least one of the following conditions:

  • the student must actively publish within the scope of his / her study
  • the student must be active in scientific work within the scope of his / her study
  • the student must have been to a professional study (not language) stay abroad
  • the student must be actively involved in any sport
