The first year of a grant program of the Penta Foundation and the Foundation Partnerství "5P pro Prahu" (5P for Prague) has a winner. An independent evaluation commission has chosen a reconstruction of public premises at housing estate Baba III in Prague 12 as the best project out of 11 registered participants. Other two city parts – Prague-Slivenec and Horní Roztyly received a support for the first project stage.

“An objective of the winning project is to create a space for natural public life usually missing at housing estates. The town hall in cooperation with inhabitants of the housing estate, local entrepreneurs, school, and cultural center will plan and implement reconstruction of the area in front of a business center Otava. The final design of alterations will arise out of images of users of the area at a joint planning meeting. Such a procedure of the project is, in our opinion, a natural way to push down anonymity of the housing estate and increase a natural supervision over the place,” said architect Robert Sedlák of the Foundation Partnerství.

Projects for revitalization of a center in Prague-Slivenec and reconstruction of Pošepný’s Square at the housing estate Jižní Město in Horní Roztyly also received one hundred thousand Crowns intended for the detailed preparation of their intention.

Attractive and living public areas contribute to quality of life in the location, create better conditions for local small entrepreneurs, and help the prevention of vandalism.

“The program 5P for Prague is to stimulate city parts to involve local inhabitants in their plans to make city areas more attractive. On the other hand, the inhabitants themselves may contribute to strengthen relations in the community by their active participation in planning changes,” explained Jana Studničková of the Penta Foundation that finances the grant program.

The winning project within the program 5P for Prague has a chance to gain 1.5 million Crowns.

“People are used to travel for work, friends, entertainment, and they often only stay the night at home. This results in a loss of relation to the location as a consequence of which the public life declines. Moreover, the public areas are often neglected and do not tempt to stay there. By supporting local centers concentrating offer of day-to-day leisure and social activities, we wish to strengthen unity of people and the place where they live, and their interest in the closest environment,” Sedlák added.
