Prague, 16 October 2025 – Penta Hospitals, one of the leading private healthcare and social care providers in Czechia, has announced the signing for the acquisition of Group Mediterra, a.s. Group Mediterra operates six hospitals, its own medical school and a home healthcare agency. The acquisition is subject to the approval of the regulatory authorities.
The planned transaction represents a strategic strengthening and expansion of the Penta Hospitals network, particularly in the areas of follow-up intensive and inpatient care, rehabilitation and orthopaedics.
The Penta Hospitals portfolio will now be complemented by:
- Mělník Hospital
- Sv. Zdislava Hospital (Mostiště)
- Malvazinky Rehabilitation Clinic
- Tanvald Hospital
- Sedlčany Hospital
- Musculoskeletal Treatment Centre in Prague
The planned transaction also includes the Mělník Secondary Medical School, which graduates approximately 200 practical nurses each year, thereby contributing significantly to the stability of the personnel base in the Czech healthcare system.
Strategic expansion of the Penta Hospitals network
“These are facilities with exceptionally strong professional backgrounds, long-standing traditions and a clearly defined focus on high-quality outcomes. With their regional roots and expertise, they naturally expand our existing network of hospitals and services, enabling us to respond even better and more effectively to the needs of patients across key regions,” said Václav Jirků, partner at Penta Investments, responsible for healthcare.
With its more than two thousand employees, Group Mediterra has long been a major provider of follow-up intensive and inpatient care, acute rehabilitation and orthopaedic surgery. The care model is based on a seamless continuum of services: from orthopaedic indications through surgery and rehabilitation to follow-up or home care through its own agency in Mělník. The group also includes a renowned maternity hospital in Mělník, where more than 1,000 births take place each year despite a nationally declining birth rate. On top of that the group also operates a center for robotic surgery in Mostiště, offering high-end surgical procedures using the latest robotic surgery technology.
“The entry of a strong and renowned partner such as Penta Hospitals undoubtedly guarantees the further development, long-term stability and continuous improvement of the quality of services provided to our patients and clients for the Group Mediterra network. We are convinced that this merger will enable us to fully exploit the potential of our facilities, expand the scope of our services and build on our existing successes with even greater momentum“,“said Jochen Sagadin, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Group Mediterra.
Modern facilities and synergies in education
In recent years, Group Mediterra has invested significantly in modernising its facilities and expanding its capacity. This includes, for example:
- the reconstruction of the maternity department in Mělník,
- the reconstruction of the departments in Mostiště and the introduction of robotic surgery using the Da Vinci Surgical System,
- modernisation of the pavilions in Malvazinky and construction of a new follow-up care ward in Mělník.
“We are pleased to be taking over workplaces that already demonstrate a strong patient-oriented approach and high quality of care. Our goal is to build on this and further develop professional quality, a modern approach and accessibility of care for patients. At the same time, we are pleased that a secondary medical school is also joining our group, which opens up opportunities for creating natural synergies in the fields of education. Strengthening the attractiveness of healthcare professions and developing high-quality staff are key issues for us, because we consider education and human development to be one of the pillars of healthcare sustainability for the future“,” said Barbora Vaculíková, CEO of Penta Hospitals CZ.
